Indiana's Trucking Industry Is Hoping To Get Help From Younger CDL Drivers

J. Ruble and Sons Truck Sales, located in Monroeville, IN, is a big part of America's trucking industry. We have been working hard to keep businesses moving so they can keep our country's products delivered. It's fairly common knowledge that we have a truck driver shortage across our vast country, and it's slowing Indiana's economy down.

Found on WDRB.com"Indiana truck companies back proposed law allowing younger drivers to cross state lines" (2018, June 4) reports on an Indiana legislator who has teamed up with other leaders to hopefully give younger CDL drivers, 18-21 years of age, the ability to begin driving across state lines to help alleviate the effect of the truck driver shortage being felt by Indiana's trucking companies.

As reported in the WDRB.com article, 18-to-21-year-olds can currently become certified truck drivers, but they are not allowed to drive across state lines per federal law. Republican Representative Trey Hollingsworth is supporting industry leaders to introduce the "Drive Safe Act" that he hopes "will give people a great career without having thousands of dollars in college loan debt." The young drivers will be required to go through an extensive, on-the-job training with an experienced driver. While the young drivers are in training, technology and safety behind the wheel will be two factors of concentration.
