Cool Smartphone Apps for Truck Drivers

Mobile technology for truck drivers and small trucking fleet owners is improving at a fast pace and the industry is all the better for it. Trucking-specific smartphone applications are designed to help drivers save time, have instant access to traffic and weather reports, and pave the way to a smoother, more efficient, and happier ride. These popular tailor-made phone apps will lighten the load for even the most seasoned truck driver.

Waze is a community-based navigation and traffic app for drivers offering real-time information and updates from real people. You can get the scoop on slow-downs and traffic jams, alternative routes, and police presence. Waze collects data from its users and transmits it to its servers for up-to-the-minute, turn-by-turn reports. It's a win/win for everyone.

Waze's user-friendly interface can point drivers in the direction of the cheapest gas station in the area and warn them about approaching emergency vehicles. The live map is a colorful and easy-to-read tool edited daily by Waze community members. Changes in road conditions are immediately noted improving routing and general driving experience.

Trucker Tools

Trucker Tools mobile app by Overdrive is a collection of handy mini-apps designed to do a little bit of everything. Drivers can access the current weather forecasts, find a favorite truck stop along the way, and read the latest trucking news. The application is one of the best for searching and ranking available new loads saving both time and money.

Trucker Tools has an active message board where drivers can chat and trade information. The Fuel Optimizer leads drivers to the cheapest diesel prices en route and the app can help find truck washing locations as well as advice on the status of weigh stations. Trucker Tools has over a half a million active users and is one of the fastest growing industry apps.

Drivewyze is cloud-based software allowing drivers to legally bypass mobile inspection sites and weigh stations using their own Smartphone or tablet. It is available in forty-two U.S. states and one Canadian province adding new locations every day. The app automatically verifies the vehicle's credentials, weight, and safety record resulting in fuel savings and time.

The Drivewyze server sends a request for a bypass as the driver approaches a weigh or inspection station. The information about the vehicle is then checked and validated against the state's current credential and safety requirements. The app sometimes uses Weigh In Motion technology in certain states to determine weight is in compliance while on the road.
